Our Event Planner’s top tips for wedding planning
As an Event Planner at Dewsall, I see couples who are engaged and married within the same six months and others who enjoy a one or two-year engagement. Whatever your timeline, here are some simple ways to stay organised and avoid any pre-wedding stress.
First Things First
Date. Venue. Numbers. These three things tend to be a top priority when it comes to the start of wedding planning. Choosing a date is often where couples begin their wedding journey, so if you are dreaming of an outdoor wedding in the summer or to be surrounded by crisp leaves in the autumn then this is where to start! Once you have a date in mind or a vague idea of what time of year you’d like to get married, you can then start reaching out to venues (like us, Dewsall, hey!) to check availability, while also bearing in mind your ideal guest numbers.
Save the Date
Weddings seem to come in waves and the last thing you want is for any of your favourite people to be otherwise engaged on your chosen date. Sending out a Save the Date is the best way to ensure you have all your favourite people there!
Inspiration and vision
Start your research in a way which suits you, whether it’s Pinterest, blogs, Instagram or trusty bridal magazines. Creating a mood board is a great way to communicate your vision to suppliers. Once you’ve settled on a style that you both agree on, try to stick to it throughout and don’t let outside opinions sway you. If you can stay focused, you are more likely to create a wedding that truly reflects your style and resonates with your guests.
You will quickly release that there are a lot of moving parts when it comes to planning a wedding and many of them are the various suppliers you need. Knowing your style aspirations and budget for each element of your wedding plan from the get go will help you to narrow down your search for the right suppliers. Most importantly, do ensure you contact your suppliers months ahead if possible, especially if you are planning a summer weekend wedding. Many suppliers are booked up a year or two in advance.
We have our own Dewsall Court Little Black Book, filled with tried and tested suppliers who have helped our couples create beautiful weddings. Contact our Events Team here to receive a copy.
Divide and conquer!
Luckily at Dewsall you are well supported by your Event Manager but there are still many jobs which need to be completed be those willing around you. Our advice, therefore, is to recruit help and learn to delegate. There is no need to become completely overwhelmed by the whole experience with a little planning ahead and involving others in what needs to be done. Whether it’s putting together a shortlist of bands, licking envelopes, helping you choose your wedding dress or preparing favours for your guests, there is always something someone else can do for you.
It’s your day
Let your wedding be a reflection of who you are as a couple. Nowadays, weddings are less traditional and more unique. Choose your menu based upon what you want to look back and remember eating as your first meal as a married couple, not what you think will please your guests. Whatever you want, this is the day to do it!
Our dedicated events team are here to guide you through every step of planning your Dewsall wedding – it will be one of the biggest days of your life, after all! Keep an eye on our blogs for more tips and advice, and if you’re looking for inspiration and ideas then head over to our Instagram.
