At this time of year you have the potential for warm Indian summer daytimes and cool crisp dark nights. If you’re dreaming of crisp fallen leaves, rich hues of russet, red and orange and low golden sunlight, then an autumn wedding is perfect for you. Whether you’re looking to incorporate the season into your day by using autumnal tones in your decor or rich, seasonal flavours in your menu then read on to discover our top tips for creating a sensational autumn wedding.
Cocktail Hour
Autumnal drinks are all about rich flavours and warmth. This season calls for mulled cider, and Herefordshire could not be a better county for it with its abundance of local cider producers. Your summertime Pimms or Prosecco bar can become a deliciously warming hot chocolate station come autumn and who says you can’t offer a selection of seasonal liqueurs for your guests to add themselves?

The Menu
Autumn in Herefordshire means rich pickings when it comes to fresh produce and local game. Favourite autumn dishes include Pumpkin Veloutè with a Duck and Sage Fritter, Caramelised Jerusalem Artichoke Soup with Burnt Pear and Walnuts and Pork Belly, Caramelised Pippin Puree, Cider Sauce, Spiced Red Cabbage and Champ. With Apple Tart Tatin, Sticky Toffee Pudding and local cheeses on the pudding menu, this is the type of food wedding guests dream of and that our excellent in-house team adore to cook!

Styling
Festoon and fairy lights are a brilliant way to recreate the golden tones of autumn inside, and there is no better place to do that than in the Wainhouse. Entwining lights with branches, autumnal foliage or dried flowers around the oak beams would make a glorious feature for your wedding feast. But don’t forget outside too! Lead your guests to the party by the flame of a copper fire torch at intervals along the pathways – we have so many ideas for autumn weddings!

Tablescapes
We love nothing more than a tablescape that celebrates the pure beauty of nature, and autumn is the perfect time to do just that. Think oversized centrepieces bursting with seasonal foliage, rich red, pink and orange blooms, mini pumpkins as place holders, gold or copper knives and forks tied in velvet ribbon and the warm glow of candlelight dancing across the table.

Fire pits
Even in autumn, guests can make use of the outdoor spaces Dewsall offers with the help of our firepit which sits just outside the Wainhouse. Surrounded by benches draped in sheepskins and blankets, this is a lovely focal point where guests can gather before or after dinner. Serving hot chocolate, toasted marshmallows or mulled cider at this point would also add to the magic.
